Once maharaj had organized a sabha (religious assembly) and has asked all disciples and saints to attend it. Maharaj announced that everyone has to be very attentive in this sabha, if any one sleeps, talks etc then he will be asked to leave the sabha. Everyone in sabha agreed to it. The sabha started, and Maharaj was explaining things. Maharaj saw Brahmanand swami dozing so He throwed Berkho (small mala) at Swami. Swami at once became attentive.Brahmanand Swami who was Maharaj͛s friend asked Maharaj why did He hit him with Berkho?Maharaj told Swami that he was caught dozing. Brahmanand Swami denied saying that he wasn͛t sleeping. Maharaj asked him, Okay, if you were not sleeping then what were you doing?
Brahmanand Swami replied at once that he was making a kirtan (devotional song) for Maharaj. Maharaj said okay Swami! Then recite in front of everyone so we can know Swami said he can recite but on one condition that everyone in sabha has to repeat the line he recites. Swami was such a brilliant poet that he could compose a Kirtan very quicly. He sang the first line Taro chatak rangilo chedlo albela re... And by the time everyone in the assembly repeated, Swami composed the next line. That way Swami composed this Kirtan and thus pleased Maharaj.
Moral: We had such great devotional poets in our sect and again with no ego.
