Firmness in Niyams

Rupabhai was firm believer of Bhagwan Swaminarayan and following all rules/agnyas set by Maharaj in Shikshapatri. He used to work for the king Vajeshinh. He was well known in his village for his truth and pious nature.

Once he was called by King in his party and asked to drink alcohol, and as this was against the religion, Rupabhai kindly replied to king that as this was against the religion so will not be able to drink it. So King just fired him from his work as he did not like Rupabhai’s denial of drinking alcohol. Rupabhai bowed down to king and left for home. Again to reiterate here Bhagwan Swaminarayan has asked satsangi/deciples not to drink alcohol and so we should never drink it.

After sometime King needed help from Rupabhai, he called him and reinstated to his job. Work that Rupabhai had to do was to take Queen and her friends on pilgrimage. So Rupabhai agreed for that and went along with Queen and her friends.

During the trip once Queen called Rupabhai late night to her tent. Rupabhai respectfully send message to Queen that its late night and he cannot go to visit her at her tent just for gossip, but will meet her in morning.  So Queen got angry on Rupabhai and when they returned she complained to King and so again Rupabhai was fired from his job.

Rupabhai maintained that he could not succumb to the Queen since it was late night and it was not correct behavior to visit a lonely female.

Moral: A satangi should not go and visit alone woman just for gossip as per Shikshapatri whatever the material consequences may be.
