ભક્તવત્સલ ભગવાન
જય સ્વામિનારાયણ...
ભગવાન શ્રી સ્વામિનારાયણ વચનામૃતમાં કહે છે,કે શુકદેવજી બ્રહ્મરુપ થયા હતા તો પણ ભગવાનના ચરિત્રોનું ગાન કરતા...
જેને આ જગતનું ભાન નથી, અને છે તો પણ તેથી તે વિરક્ત છે,અને તે ભગવાનના ચરિત્રોમાં એકદમ લીન થતા હોય, તો સહેજે આપણને એમ થાય કે એ ચરિત્રમાં શું રસ હશે? તો પહેલા એ રસ માણવા માટે એનું એક બુંદ માણીએ. "વ્હલા એ રસના ચાખણહાર, છાસ તે નવ પીવે રે લોલ..."
ભગવાન શ્રી સ્વામિનારાયણ એક વખત પોતાનાં ભક્તો સાથે સોરઠનાં ગામડાઓમાં વિચરણ કરતા કરતા માણાવદર ગામે પધાર્યા. મયારામ ભટ્ટને હૈયામાં અતિ હરખ હતો, કે મહારાજ ઘણા વર્ષે હરિભક્તો સાથે મારે ઘેર પધાર્યા. મારે ભાવથી સેવા કરવી અને ખુબ જમાડવા છે. બધી તૈયારી કરી.
મહારાજે થોડીવાર કથાવાર્તા કરી ત્યાં સુધીમાં ભટ્ટજીએ બધી રસોઈ તૈયાર કરી દીધી. મહારાજની બેઠક તૈયાર કરી મયારામ ભટ્ટ મહારાજને બોલાવવા આવ્યા. મહારાજ તેઓની પ્રાર્થના સાંભળી જમવા પધાર્યા. ભટ્ટજીએ મહારાજને અતિ ભાવથી શેલણ પીરસ્યું. પીરસી મહારાજને કહ્યું કે, હે મહારાજ આપ ભોજન શરૂ કરો. મહારાજ જમવા લાગ્યા. શેલણમાં ચોખા,ગોળ અને ઘી હોય. ચોખામાં થોડી કાંકરી. દાંત સાથે ઘસાય. થોડો અવાજ આવે એટલે મુળજી બ્રહ્મચારીએ મહારાજને પૂછ્યું કે મહારાજ આ શેનો અવાજ આવે છે? મહારાજે કહ્યું આ ભટ્ટજીનો ભાવ બોલે છે. કોઈ કાઈ સમજ્યું નહીં. મહારાજ બધું જ જમી ગયા.
ચળુ કરી મહારાજ ઉભા થયા. સાથેના ભક્તોની પંક્તિ થઈ. બધાને મહારાજે પીરસ્યું. પીરસીને મહારાજે કહ્યું જુઓ ભક્તો ભટ્ટજીએ હૈયાના હેતથી શેલણ બનાવ્યું છે. અને આજે શેલણ પીવાનું છે, જે ચાવે તે વિમુખ.
બધાને આશ્ચર્ય થયું! આ તે વળી કેવું પ્રકરણ? ચાવે તે વિમુખ...
સૌએ જમવાની શરુઆત કરી. ચોખામાં કાંકરી એટલે બધાને દાંતે કચડાય. અને જો બોલે તો વિમુખ થાય. સૌ જમી રહ્યા પછી મહારાજ પાસે સભા થઈ. સુરાખાચરે મહારાજને કહ્યું! મહારાજ તમે ભટ્ટજીની ખરી લાજ રાખી.
મહારાજે કહ્યું રાખવી તો પડે ને! નહીતર તમે કાઠી ભક્તો અમારા ભટ્ટજીની આબરુના કાંકરા કરી નાખો.
ફરી સુરાબાપુ બોલ્યા, મહારાજ એટલે જ તમે કાંકરા તમારા પેટમાં સમાવી લીધા. વાત સાંભળી મહારાજ ખુબ હસ્યા.
Everyday, Nilkanth made a bed of banana leaves for Sevakram. He washed Sevakram's spoiled clothes and prepared his meals. Sevakram used to give money to Nilkanth to buy ingredenits for preparation of his food. Nilkanth, however, would beg for food and eat what he got. Often, he didn't get anything, so he would fast. Yet, Sevakram never offered Nilkanth any money, nor did he invite Nilkanth to eat with him.
Thus, Nilkanth nursed Sevakram back to health. Sevakram could now drink and digest nearly one pound of ghee. Yet, he made Nilkanth carry his belongings weighing 20 kg. He never took care of Nilkanth. His name was Sevakram, but he made others serve him like servants. Nilkanth Varni realized that Sevakram was a krutaghni i.e. who did not appreciate the services done by others for him. So, Nilkanth Varni left him.
This was Nilkanth Varni! He selflessly served others. He never cared for his bodily needs and lovingly served others. He showed us the ideal way of doing service by doing service Himself.
Moral: One should selflessly serve the needy; be grateful to God and worship Him for all that He has given us.

Nilkanth Varni on his journey through the wilderness, when reached south India met a sadhu named Sevakram. He was a Sanskrit scholar. One day he fell ill with dysentery. He had a gold worth thousand rupees, but no one there to take care of him. So, he started to weep. Nilkanth, who was travelling on the road between Venkatadri and Setubandh Rameshwar, saw Sevakram's predicament.
