Shashtriji Maharaj
Shashtriji Maharaj Shri Dharmajivandasji Swami was born on the auspicious Rathayatra day 18thJune, 1901 to a humble farmer family of Bhurabhai Lakhani and Viruba of Tarvadā Village, Amreli District of Gujarat state as Arjan, he later founded Shree Swaminarayan Gurukul, Rajkot. And the Gurukul turned out to be many folds with many branches all over.As a child, Arjan was very brilliant and studious in school, was a good friend to his friends and village boys was a humble servant to his parents, was a good devotee inside the temple and thus was an ideal child in every way yet calm and composed. He was fearless and bold towards vicious people but kind and gentle towards virtuous and poor people. As he had a natural inclination for spiritual learning and reading of religious scriptures he was regular in visiting Shree Swaminarayan temple in his village.
After reading Yamadand, a scripture composed by Sadguru Nishkulanand Swami which describes the punishments for all kinds of sins, he developed detachment towards worldly life and was attracted towards divine Paramahans. Arjan started regularly attending Satsang, started slowly doing menial services to the Saints and devotees, and learned kirtans. Once, a God-realized saint BrahmanishthaSadguru Shri Balmukunddasji Swami visited Tarvadā. 7 years old Arjan was attracted to the Swamiji and tried to serve sincerely whatever way possible. Gradually he became a disciple of Swamiji and Arjan requested Swamiji to teach meditation of God and revealed his wish of leading a renunciate life. Hearing that Swamiji was pleased but said to become a Saint is no ordinary. You have to suffer a lot. Your family will not permit you easily.
Whatever Swamiji mentioned later became fact. There was a lot of trouble from family, however, Arjan steadfastly maintained his natural liking towards detachment and by overcoming all resistance he became a Sadhu at the age of 14.
Moral: Shastriji Maharaj's life is an inspiration for us.
